It’s crazy to think that it was just February 1st of last year, in the wee hours of the night, that this vision came to me in my dreams – and now here it is.
What a ride… from knowing what I wanted to create (a world of color and pattern, for both your wardrobe and your home) but not knowing how to get there… studying textiles and then surface design at RISD online… discovering the art of Indian block-printing and shibori, and finding a small family-run factory to help bring it to life… working tirelessly with a team of people on the other side of the world, going through countless iterations of fabrics and colors to get them just right, learning so much about how to work with natural dyes, how they tend to have a mind of their own, how the feel of a fabric changes from print to print, all things on pattern creation and fit and I’d love to say getting better at Photoshop but really only marginally so… from learning on the fly how to deal with customs when your shipment has been stuck for two weeks and you’re one week from launch… after months of feeling like it’s been delay after delay, I can’t help sit back and realize: This has all manifested rather quickly. Just a little over a year. It’s a bit mind-boggling.
But I do believe, when things are meant to happen, they find a way of falling into place. While I’ll never say this has been easy, it has all felt very natural. I’ve paid close attention to the signs along the way, and that has brought me such a sense of peace. Down to my astrologer suggesting I launch today on the Solstice, and at that moment in early May feeling like it was a date that was too far out, too far into the season, being sure that my shipment would be here by June 1st, so couldn’t I launch sooner? But something told me that the date was right, I should launch on the 21st, and here we are – just days after my shipment actually ending up arriving.
It’s a feeling as if all of this has already been written, and I’m just going through the motions – along for the ride, in a sense.
Thank you for being a part of my journey, many of you who have been following along for many years. How far we’ve come!
So it is my greatest pleasure to introduce to you, my heart and soul in the form of a product that you can touch and feel. It doesn’t get more personal than to serve it all up in my own name, and that feels exactly right.
And this is my deepest wish, with what I am creating… that it brings you joy and happiness, an ability to express yourself through color and pattern, in your clothing and your homes. That you can discover what enchantment means to you, and feel more and more inspired to embody that, to surround yourself in it. That you find more time to create ritual around your table, to create your own beauty and joy and fully absorb yourself in those moments, with the people you love most.
Welcome to the world of Sarah Spiegel.
